Some experiments tonight. Started it up, a little misfirey but a smoothish idle at a sensible speed. Gave the hydraulics a quick work out, engaged drive and all is well. Then blipped the throttle and as the revs come back down, it just cuts out. Restart and it's sort of ok but touch the throttle and it revs before cutting out again.

The coil pack HT connections are a bit black, and the leads look ancient, but I'm not convinced they're at the root of the problem. I will replace them though because they look horrible!

That's my fear. Could be a metering fault - air mass meter?

Indeed not - especially as the BX has just started spraying LHM everywhere...

Ah, Citroens. Who'd have 'em?

So, where's the best place to buy stuff for CXs then?

As an interim fix, I've got the CX ticking over by the simple trick of upping the idle speed. It now catches when the revs drop, albeit it struggles for a moment before bringing itself back up to idle. Had one of the plugs out - did not look at all nice. Planning to head out for a test drive, though you'll forgive me if I end up grabbing a set of plugs at Halfrauds...

Test drive proved successful - Halfords less so. They're book doesn't include the CX anymore, so no leads/plugs from that avenue. I did at least get something to stick the interior mirror back in place.

Sounds like a carb fault. probably a blocked jet.

Strip it down and use a compressor to blow through all the jets and orifices (beware blow back!)

check the fuel filter is OK. Most are changes so rarely they are usually a) solid and impede fuel flow and/or b) rotten and shedding bits of filter that block up the carb!

Embarassed Ignore previous posts. She is injection isn't she Embarassed Question

If so the fault is often a split concertina hose that connects the air mass meter to the throttle body. The splits are hard to find but are easily cured with self amalgamating tape.

Parts: Try Brodies. CXBasis have everything but can be stupidly expensive. AEP are always worth a look for mechanical stuff.

First port of call in all circumstances: ask the every wonderful Stan Platts!

Thanks. I did have a check of that hose yesterday, but I might take another look. Plugs and leads are the priority though - they're both hideous.

Who is this Stan? Sounds worth knowing! There's a GSF near where I work, so might try them for the plugs/leads.
